Mount Washington Massif

USA / New Hampshire / Randolph /
trail, scenic lookout, Appalachian trail, interesting place

6288 feet or 1916 meters above sea level, Mount Washington is the highest and most prominent peak in New England. Though both an auto road and cog railway (along with several trails) lead to the summit, the mountain is notorious for its deadly weather (snow squalls can occur year-round). The summit area contains the manned observatory, a visitor center, museum, gift shop, and several communications towers.

Comments

  • Here they had the strongest wind gust ever recorded.
  • technically, they did not record the highest wind as the wind measuring aparatus was torn of the mountain at 232mph.
  • one in every crowd I guess.....acron cutie still posted a factual statement.
  • Out there there is a great video of two scientists, one acting like a waiter trying to serve breakfast to another outside during one of their famous winds. Cereal blows away, milk pours horizontally, plate, chain and table blow away and men crawl into shelter.
