Also known as the Windsor Locks Canal, this waterway was built in between 1827 and 1829 to bypass the shallows at Enfield Falls on the Connecticut River. It runs along the west side of the river for 5.5 miles between Windsor Locks and Thompsonville. Now closed to water transportation, the canal's tow path is open to the public for hiking and biking. The canal is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
