Town with a population of 449 at the 2000 census. Named for the Campo Bella plantation that existed near here on the South Pacolet River owned by planter Joseph Davis and his descendents. The name means "beautiful field." The town was incorporated in 1882 as Campobello, the slight name change likely due to poor transcription. The town remained locally known as "Campobella" for some time thereafter.
