The English Walk. When the rail line was built between Algeciras on the coast and Ronda at the end of the 19th C. it was popular with the people stationed in Gibraltar to make the journey up into the hills to obtain the fresh 'English' air of Ronda. The Hotel Reina Victoria was built around 1906 in order to provide comfortable rooms for these new tourists. In addition, a 'paseo' or walk was created along the very top of the famous precipice where distant views can be found. So the hotel residents had the chance to take the air and walk as far as the Puente Nuevo at the Gorge.
