Cat Spring is an unincorporated community in southern Austin County, Texas along Farm-To-Market Road 949, south of the city of Bellville (although Cat Spring is unincorporated, it has a post office). As of the 2000 Census it had a population of 766.
Cat Spring was founded by German immigrants from Oldenburg and Westphalia in 1834 and is named for a nearby spring where a puma was once killed. The community was the location of Texas' first agricultural society, and was also the site of a station on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (M-K-T) Railroad. The community began to decline after World War II.
