Sidestream Elevated Pool Aeration (SEPA) Station #1 - Designed to oxygenate surface waters where oxygen depletion occurs due to the abundant biosolids. Water from the channel is lifted 12 to 15 feet and allowed to drop over a series of weirs to create a waterfall and add oxygen to the waterway. Constructed by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago in the 1990s.
