The "historic" downtown area of Stillwater, this area in not very well kept in comparison to other historic downtowns in Oklahoma. The city has on several occasions tried to revitalize this area of town with planning, flower planting, etcetera, but to no avail. While some businesses manage to maintain a fairly regular customer base, others don't last more than a year or two, and, overall, the economy downtown is far from booming. Perhaps the lack of interest from townspeople is the fact that they're more interested in suburban strip-style shopping centers with mediocre chains occupying them, or perhaps it's because the city refuses to realize that much positive business would/could exist if the consideration of a college aged customer base wasn't a no-no. However, from a townie's viewpoint, many of the college students are boozin' partiers who cause more problems than they do help any situation. In any case, this place is rarely hopping, and only the extreme of business stays open past 6.
