  • The town of Palaiochori was fortunate enough to be situated under the shadow of a mythical and sacred mountain, called Paggeo, from which the town took its name. The town, crowned by Trikorphos, the three renowned summits of Paggeo, extends across the mountainsides and reaches the valley of Philippoi. You can enjoy the beauty of the mountain by going for a walk along the mountain paths, climbing following unique paths, riding a mountain bike or you can go for an excursion in the shaded forest and visit the renowned monasteries of Panagia Ikosipfinissa, St. Dimitrios, St. Ioannis and Axion Esti. You can also visit the ruins of the Byzantine Monastery of St. Georgios and the ruins of Vranocastro where the view is wonderful. The great number of cultural events shows how close our citizens are to their history, tradition and nature. At the centre of our historical settlements you can see the traditional architecture of Paggeo, on which construction works are based and you can taste the local cuisine in the wonderful taverns and sample the famous raki and the wine that Dionysus used to favour.
