  • In the very early 20th century all of the city's sewage was dumped here. Most of the poor who had to live near here had mosquito-borne Malaria. A few huge bat roost were built nearby and the bats ate most of the mosquitoes in the area saving many lives. Better sanitation and lots of pesticides reduced the problem.
