office building, under construction
Address:
MAS Building
Jalan Sultan Ismail
50250 Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia
Completed in 1986, this 36-storey building is formerly owned by Malaysia Airlines (MAS) (www.malaysiaairlines.com/). The building was sold to Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) (www.pnb.com.my/) for RM130 million in 2006 to save MAS from financial meltdown. It is learnt that PNB may convert the former MAS headquarters into a business or five-star hotel and demolish the multi-level podium next to it to make way for a 70-storey luxury serviced apartment tower worth a combined RM1 billion.
Several designs had been touted for this tower. PNB also initially announced that the design would be revealed in October 2010 but October has since come and go... Judging from how GLCs (Government Linked Companies) work, it probably won't be another year before things take off. If this happens, punters who invested in St. Mary's Block C and paid RM100 psf lesser for tower 1 will be pleased to know that the horrible and bad 'feng shui' (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_shui) jagged roof of the MAS building podium block will be gone forever.
