This was the Stinky Safeway (also known as the Sixties Safeway, which along with Spanish Safeway, Soviet Safeway, Secret Safeway, Social Safeway, and Un-Safeway, was one of the named Safeway grocery stores of Washington, D.C.) and its adjacent parking lot, named because it was built in the 1960s and rarely updated since then. In 2012, the Safeway met its demise when it was torn down for new apartments, with a replacement Safeway reopening at the site in 2014.
