Ravenscliff c. 1904
Currently Private Residence Ravenscliff was designed by Brockie & Hastings for William Townsend Wright, built on 165 acres. Wright was president of the Rio Grande & Eagle Pass Railroad and Canal Coal Company of Laredo, Texas. The original design of the mansion was considered to be excessive, with unnecessary details and elements. Wright gave the house to his son, William Coxe Wright, and his wife, Charlotte Dorrance Wright (of relation to Woodcrest’s John T. Dorrance), as a wedding present. The new owners completely remodeled the house, hiring New York architect Harrie T. Lindeberg to alter the house. Lindeberg had popularized the Cotswold style on Long Island and Connecticut, and applied this style to Ravenscliff. The interior was also altered, making the cramped original rooms more spacious.
1904: Ravenscliff built shortly after: given to W.C. Wright and altered
1977: Charlotte Wright dies, house contents dispersed, land subdivided for new homes
