Historic house and estate dating to about 1820. It originally belonged to the Carters, one of the First Families of Virginia, and went on to be associated with several people who played prominent roles in the Civil War. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At one time, the estate encompassed some 3,300 acres.
