park, hiking, trail, campsite / caravan site

A part of Hoosier National Forest, Pate's Hollow offers a scenic, moderately rugged 7 mile loop trail. Most of the trail (the northern portion) is in Hoosier National Forest, where back country camping is permitted. The camping policy is "Leave No Trace". The southernmost portions of the trail are in Paynetown State Recreation Area, and no camping is allowed. Near the center of the trail (approximately miles 3-4, measured clockwise), there are several access points to the lake. Camping is possible here very close to the lake shore. Parking and the trailhead are located on State Road 446, just north of the entrance to Paynetown.
