Former Werner's Dinner House (Anaheim, California)

USA / California / Fullerton / Anaheim, California / West Lincoln Avenue, 1001

Werner's was an actual home that served dinners to locals and travelers in the front rooms. There wasn't much in the way of menu selections, just whatever Mrs. Werner was serving that day. Good stuff. Good pies.

  • my grandmother, Mary, was the waitress who had served in the back room and she worked there for 30 years. She was Helen Werner's best friend. I have a picture of her in her dining room. I spent most of my childhood in the 60's at werner's when my grandma was at work. I went to work with her on the weekends and helped make the pies with "Farris". I was also a bus girl when I turned 9. The only people who worked there longer was Helen Werner herself. So many great memories..so sad that the restaurant had to close down. Thanks for sharing and remembering it! Victoria
  • would be curious to know when the restaurant closed down? due to the death of the owner? I ate their during the 1970's and 1980's if I recall. who owned or owns her home? stephenzirschky@hotmail.com
  • Photo taken Sunday, August 24, 2008.
  • It's still there, repainted but, still fenced off and vacant. August 20, 2010.
  • Oh, I remember this restaurant. It was my favorite place to go. We worked swap-meets and would go there after a long day at work. Each of us had our favorites that we would order. I loved going on Chicken and Dumpling night...and loved my chocolate pie to go. I can't find pie like that anywhere. I still remember the super flakey crust so light and buttery. Mary was a wonderful waitress and my dad always gave her a bad time and she always gave it right back to him (always in jest). All of the staff was just wonderful and I remember Mrs. Werner would sit at a table just outside the kitchen making sure everything was running smooth. I sure miss that place.
  • Drove past today the building is still there
  • My mom worked with Mary, her name was Karene. Do you remember her.
  • My sister worked there her name was Bambi. She was married to Andy Werner.
  • Betty what is your last name? I might know you.
  • I remember all the delicious pies and food. I would sneak into the kitchen when my grandparents were working. To this day my grandfather makes the best chicken and dumplings.
