Dakshinaamnaaya Peetha(Universal Vedic Institution of south) for Rigveda Studies established by the Great Saint/Legend Aadi Shankaraachaarya of Kalady. This is the most prominent of the four PEETHAs(World's Veda Centers) established by Sri Shankaracharya in the four corners of mighty and vast Indian Nation - Bharat for the study of four Vedas. The great temples of Sharadamba and Vidya Shankara are the main land marks of Sringeri built on the banks of river Tungaa. This is the most prominent Hindu Center in the world. The Vedic College of Mutt is dedicated to the study of Advaitha Phylosophy of Aadi Shankara.

  • Bharatha bhoomi (india) is the cradle of vedanta and advaita is the jewel of the crown. Adi Sankara was born during 7-8th century AD in Kalady, Kerala. He is considered to be the reincarnation of Lord Siva. He took sanyasa (recluse) learned all vedas and sastras and became a disciple of Guru Govinda Bhagavat Pada at the banks of Narmada river. He was the first to offer Pada Puja to Gurus. He toured all over India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Gokarna to Sri Sailam by foot, won debates, spread advaita (there no second thing)and brought the path of Gnana for salvation of athma (soul). He met Kumarila Bhata who was an exponent of karma and won his disciple Mandana Misra (later named as Sureswaracharya) and his wife Upaya Bharathi (incarnation of Godess Saraswathi) and installed her as Sri Sharada Parmeswari at Sringeri where he stayed for 12 years. He installed only four Aamnya Peethas at Sringeri-South, Jothir Math-North,Poori-East and Dwaraka-West each one alloted for each veda. Two are near sea shore while two are in mountains. All dasanami sanyasins in India are affiliated to any of these four maths only. With a short span of 32 years life Sri Sankara wrote many commentaries, Bhashyas and importantly reorganised and rationalised the worship-methods in India. Religious practises were confined to Six methods by Him. He was the first one to exercise national integration. Of all these four peethas Sringeri is the foremost one and is to propagate Yajur Veda. The seers or Jagadgurus who occupy this Peetha are in unbroken chain of successive lineage and the present Shankaracharya Sri Bharathi Theertha MahaSwamigal is the 36th Pontiff. One has to see to believe this system Sri Sankara has evolved to regulate religion and worship in India. Conquering all religions he ascended Sarvgna Peetha at Kashmir.Adi Sankara attained abode at Kedarnath in Himalaya's. Read his life history for full details.
