  • "Knollwood" Designed by the architectural firm of Hiss & Weekes, was one of the firms most beautiful county-house commissions, was built between 1906 & 1920 for Charles I. Hudson, a New York City stockbroker. The house was palatially scaled and faced with Indiana Limestone..... Inside the house contained 30 rooms with paneling imported from England and marble fireplaces brought from Italy.......After the death of Charles Hudson in 1921, "Knollwood" passed to a succession of owners, including Mrs. Charles Senff, C.S.MacVeigh, and quite briefly in the early 1950s, King Gustav S. Zog of Albania; the house was demolished in the 1860's. For full text, check out "Long Island Country Houses and their Architects, 1850-1940" by Robert B MacKay, Anthony K Baker & Carol A. Traynor
