Alapad is a village of farmers and toddy tappers. People are Hindus, Christians and Muslims in the order of their strength in population. Muslim community is very weak here which reflects in the fact that they do not have a structure to assemble and pray to their God.

The Roman Catholoics have a decent Church. Looking at the Church one can easily conclude that majority of christians living in Alapad are financially better off.

The Hindus do not have any brahmin families in Alapad Village. Hindus have several temples here. Controlled by influencial families, they conduct annual functions which are attended by all people irrespective of religion and cast. There are Ezhavas, Nairs, Pulayas and Vettuvas make the main Hindu community. Being placed close to low lying vast paddy fields, the occupation of the people mainly is related to paddy farming.
The houses are constructed on the elavated land which is crowded by coconut and arecanut trees. The other trees found are Tamarind trees, Mango trees, Cashewnut trees etc.
