city, capital city of state/province/region
This is the capital city of Bamiyan province. It is famous for having two giant Bhuddas created long ago. They were carved into the sandstone cliffs and built of packed straw and mud.
The Former Taliban government of Afghanistan destroyed these Bhuddas over international protest in late 2001, declaring them to be against Islam.
Currently work is underway to rebuild the Bhuddas using numerous collected photos from multiple sources, museums to tourists.
