The Maharajah and family members lie buried in the churchyard at Elveden, close to their country residence at Elveden Hall. Deposed in 1848 and brought to England as a teenager, the Maharajah was a guest of Queen Victoria at Windsor and later a friend of the Prince of Wales. In later years he became a fierce critic of British policy in the Punjab, regretting the loss of his estates to Victoria, to whom he referred as "Mrs Fagin, a receiver of stolen goods".
