The station was originally called Hermeti. Rapla station has two platforms, 550 mm high and 150 m long. About 20 passenger trains stop in Rapla daily. The distance from Baltiysk Station to Rapla is 54.4 km by rail, the train journey takes approximately 53 minutes to one hour, and up to 50 minutes by express. The station has four branch lines and a main road. Several branches also depart from the station, leading to various industrial areas. All southbound passenger trains stop in Rapla, with about twenty departures per day. The station can also be used for loading and unloading goods on and off trains. The station is classified as zone IV for fares.
