The sisters of Holy Cross of Chavanod France came to India in 1886 and started Holy Cross Convent School at Amravati and little after a primary school at Badnera. It was especially built for the children of European, Anglo-Indian and native Christians serving in railway and at other places. The school building was extended from time to time with its transition from primary to middle and then high school during last fifty years. I also had an opportunity to attend 'Std.I' in this school either in 1949 or 50. In those days it appeared as a big colonial bungalow with three or four classrooms. In a room at the end of front veranda, huge piano was kept, the teacher used to play it when children assembled in veranda for prayer before attending classes. The sisters used to come daily from Amravati by morning train to teach the childrens and in evening they went back.
