Lakeland has two designated Amtrak station codes (necessary since each train stops in Lakeland twice as they go to/from Tampa):
LKL - for trains to/from points south
LAK - for trains to/from points north

The station, built in 1998, presently receives two trains per day (totaling four stops). They are Trains 91 and 92, the "Silver Star" passenger train. Additionally, Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach service shuttles Lakeland passengers to Orlando (ORL) to connect with northbound train 98, the "Silver Meteor".

Lakeland also serves as a transfer station for Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach service to/from Dade City (DDE), Wildwood (WWD), Ocala(OCA), Gainesville (GNF), and Waldo (WDO).
