An ancient habitation mound, identified as the site of the Old Babylonian city of Malgium. It is located some 29 km west of modern an-Numaniyah, and surrounded by several smaller mounds dating to later times (the Parthian, Sasanid, and Islamic periods). The mound was badly damaged by illegal digging during and following the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The temple complex was located in the central and northeastern parts of the mound, while palace and administrative buildings were located in the southwestern part. A lower town was situated west and southwest of the mound.
