www.mtwilson.edu/

All of the original facilities are still owned by the non-profit Carnegie Institution.
Maintenance and operations of the site are now under the general direction of the non-profit Mount Wilson Institute.
Control of individual assets are as follows:
150 foot solar tower: UCLA
60 foot solar tower: USC
Infrared Interferometer: UC Berkeley
100 inch Hooker telescope: University of Illinois
CHARA array: Georgia State University
Telescopes used for astronomy. Includes the 100" Hooker telescope. Edwin Hubble (the man that the space telescope is named for) used the Hooker to prove that the universe is expanding. Mount Wilson had some of the best "seeing" in the United States and it was easily accessible from Pasadena (via nine mile dirt road) so it was an obvious choice for a new state of the art observatory in 1905.
