Belgium / Limburg / Halen
 municipality, draw only border

Halen is a municipality in the province of Limburg in Belgium. The city has more than 9,000 inhabitants and belongs to the judicial canton of Hasselt 2 and the electoral canton of Herk-de-Stad.

In addition to the center and main town of Halen, Halen has two more sub-municipalities: Loksbergen and Zelem. Zelk is also a church village of Halen.

Halen was first mentioned in 741 as Halon. The name is said to come from Hall, a large covered space. It is also suggested that the Germanic Halhum, bend in the highlands, underlies the name.
