Ham is a municipality in the province of Limburg in Belgium and belongs to the electoral canton and the judicial canton of Beringen. It has more than 11,000 inhabitants.
Finds of flints and blades, chippings and other utensils show that people already lived at the place that Ham is today around the years 3000 to 1500 BC.
The area was historically part of the lordship of Ham. The first mention of that glory dates from 785. Daonatus mentioned Ham in Vita Sancti Trudonis, the story about Saint Trudo. The Vita states, among other things, how the mayor of Herstal Pepijn van Herstal dedicated all his money to Ochinsala (Eksel) and Ham. A similar story can also be found in the writings of Theodoricus.
