museum, Second World War 1939-1945, bunker, interesting place

During the second world war, the Germans build a large bunker. This bunker was used for producing liquid oxygen and to launch V2 rockets to England. Allied bombardments disabled the complex. Currently the complex is a museum. Visitors are guided through the complex with a PA system.

  • No rockets were ever launched from here, it was bombed before completion! This is the third major error that I have found - the captions on this site are dreadfully inacurate and should not be used as the basis for any intelligent discussion. "Visitors are guided through the complex with a PA system". If you mean that a commentary can be hears in several European languages than I suppose that is correct but nobody is guided anywhere. The commentary on the system is heavily biased in favour of French and Belgium workers (some of whom did indeed lose their lives) but one can't help wondering if the commentators understood that so too did many other nationalities? Above all this is a privately owned FRENCH monument FOR French people! The owners even refusung to answer questions posed in English. French speaking visitors from Allied countries might like to try to keep a distainful silence when listening to the comments! A more balanced view can be obtained from the nearby La Coupole museum some 10Km away, and joint discounted tickets are available.
