Smolyanskite Ezera (The Smolyan lakes) is a natural monument with Ordinance № 374 from 05.05.1982 by the Committee for Natural Environmental Protection at the Council of Ministers in order to protect lakes.
Unique identification code in the register of protected areas in Bulgaria: 442.
Area: 49.5 hectares.

The Smolyan Lakes are located in the Rhodope Mountains. They can be reached after the Ezerovo Neighborhood of the town of Smolyan up the road to the village of Stoykite. You can park near the lift station. At the moment they are 8 in number. Their names are: Bistroto, Matnoto, Trevistoto, Platenoto, Milushevskoto, Osmanovia Gyol, Silazha and Lagera. Along the eco-trail "Three Smolyan Lakes" you can see the three uppermost lakes (Bistroto, Matnoto, Trevistoto). The largest is the Trevistoto, and the deepest is the Matnoto - 4.5 m.
