The statue is a replica of the Goddess of Democracy which stood in Tiananmen Square during the democracy uprising in 1989. The site was dedicated on June 12, 2007, to the memory of the estimated 100 million victims of communist regimes ---the date marked the 20th anniversary of the Ronald Reagan "tear down this wall" speech.
