  • I once traveled to this incredibly isolated village with three friends just because it looked interesting on Google Earth. When we got there, we did not have any food and we had lost a sleeping bag along the way. I went into the village in the pitch black with my Peruvian friend Diego. There Diego approached a tiny village hut shouting "con permiso!". I started working out how I would explain Diego's death to his parents. Then some men came out. When I realized they were not going to kill him I got out of the truck. Diego asked if they had any extra fish. They said no. Then as we started to walk away they called out to follow them. Now I started to envision our other friends explaining our disappearance to our parents and families. The men took us to a small refrigerated truck and opened the back door. We peered inside and saw a small pile of ice. They handed us 5 good sized white fish that were frozen alive and reluctantly accepted $20. We could have fed 10 people that night as we barbecued the fish on the pack of my tailgate. It was so tender we could pick the meat off with our hands. This was a good night, great adventure, and a generous man. Was this Aurelio? Who knows... Greyman
