Former location of the Wine Harbour Gold Mining district. At the height of production in the 1860s to 1890s, Wine Harbour produced a gold value of “$716.75 to the man, $52.40 more than Victoria, the richest mining district in Australia.” (Alexander Heatherington, Practical guide for tourists, miners, and investors, and all persons interested in the development of the gold fields of Nova Scotia (Montreal: John Lovell, 1868), 37) Today less then 12 people call Wine Harbour home.
