This used to be a pretty cool beach to go and watch the huge breakers. (Don't try swimming though -- the undertow will suck you out and spit up your corpse near San Diego.) Now because it is a nesting site of the endangered Snowy Plover, it is only open one day a week, and that under the watchful armed guard of the California police.
