Oakland Township is a township in section 2 of Freeborn County, Minnesota. The population was 430 at the 2000 census.

The City of Oakland was originally settled in 1855. It organized in 1857, The original village had a store, creamery, bank, and a school. Its first post office operated 1857-59. The second post office was at nearby Guildford from 1858-1875, transferring to Oakland in 1875. It had a station of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad from 1869 until 1980, with a line now operated by the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern.
