Montezuma Castle Road
Camp Verde, AZ 86322

Cliff dwellings just off I-17 near Camp Verde, AZ. They were inhabited approximately 600-700 years ago by a group known today as the "Sinagua" (spanish for: without water).
It earned it's name in the erroneous belief that the Aztec emperor, Montezuma, fled the Spanish and may have briefly lived there at one time. The National Monument is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as a historic district, and is also an International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) category V site.
