4-story mid-century modernist school building completed in 1965. Designed by Michael L. Radaslovich, the building was formerly a single large school, the Louis D. Brandeis High School. In 2009, it was divided into five smaller school units: Frank McCourt High School, Global Learning Collaborative, Innovation Diploma Plus and Urban Assembly for Green Careers. The fifth school is Upper West Success Academy, a charter elementary school that is part of the popular Success Academy network of charter schools. Each of the four small high schools has a distinct mission and its own dedicated space in the building where most of its classes are held. All the schools share use of the building's renovated science labs, three gymnasiums, weight training room, auditorium, cafeteria, library and outdoor yard.
The facades are clad in brown brick and white-painted cast-stone. The 4-story main building is flanked by 1-story sections at both ends. Stone piers divide the 4-story section into eight main bays, each with six narrow windows above metal panels at the upper floors. Broad, notched stone band courses separate each floor. There is a short end bays on each end, with two more narrow windows. The entire ground floor is recessed under the upper floors, more so at the entrance bays. There are four main entrances, two each on 84th Street and 85th Street, in the 2nd main bay from each end of the 4-story section. On 84th Street, short sets of steps lead up to the doorways, while on 85th Street, there are steps leading down. The entrances, set behind metal gates, have three sets of metal-and-glass double-doors flanked by a window at each end. There is also metal fencing fronting the ground-floor bays in between the entrances. These bays are faced in stone, with a band of square windows with metal screens along the top (six windows per bay). These also continue along the ends of the ground floor, to the far end of each facade, where there is brick cladding below the window band; at the 1-story west end the brick is painted with a colorful mural on 84th Street. At the far east end on 85th Street there is a garage door.
The east and west facades above the 1-story end sections have the same cladding, with eight main bays. The middle four of these have five narrow windows, the outer two on each side have four narrow windows, and the shorter end bays have three. There is a large central courtyard above the ground floor at the middle of the building. The walls facing in on the courtyard match those on the outer facades.
