 townhouse, rowhouse, apartment building

A row of four 3-story (plus raised basements) Neo-Grec residential buildings completed together in 1882. Designed by Christian Blinn, they are clad in brownstone, painted very light grey at Nos. 8 & 10. The entrances and high stoops (with metal handrails) are paired together at Nos. 4 & 6, and 8 & 10.

No. 4 at the east end has paneled wooden double-doors, while those at No. 6 are wood and glass. Both are flanked by pilasters rising from plinths at the stoops, fluted at the bases, with fluted capitals. In front stand matching but rounded columns supporting a shared cornice with wrought-iron cresting that forms a portico for both entries. To the left No. 4 has a single-window bay angling forward to a projecting bay with another window. At the parlor floor and basement levels these windows have iron grilles, and there is a basement entry in the side of the stoop. The upper floors have the same windows, with another single-window above the entrance. Each has a full stone surround with fluted pilasters, bracketed sills, and bracketed, eared lintels. Spandrel panels between the floors at each bay are decorated with incised ornament. No. 6 also has a basement entry in the side of its stoop, and a wider parlor-floor and basement window next to the entry and stoop. The upper floors have two bays of windows matching those on No. 4. Air-conditioning vents have been cut below the angled-bay windows at No. 4, and in between the two bays at No. 6.

No. 8 is a mirror-image of No. 6, and No. 10 exactly matches No. 6, with the exception of the paint color, and the doors. No. 8 has black, wood, wrought-iron, and glass double-doors, and No. 10 has wood-and-glass double-doors (with a taller transom) painted bright magenta. Matching black metal roof cornices crown each house, with brackets and panels. The cornice on No. 4 follows the angled and projecting bays on the left.

Nos. 6 & 10 remain single-family townhomes, while the other two have been divided into multiple units.
