Tiffany Reading Room (Irvington, New York)

The Tiffany Reading Room was established by Charles Lewis Tiffany, founder of Tiffany & Co., who donated the land which the present Irvington Town Hall sits through the Mental and Moral Improvement Society with a stipulation that a reading room be made for the public. Louis Comfort Tiffany, his son, was commissioned by Helen Gould to design the Arts & Crafts interior with ornate mosaics and glass light fixtures.

By the 1990's, the Irvington Library had outgrown its space and the former room was left to become storage. A multi-year restoration by Stephen Tilly restored the space in 2012. The Tiffany Reading Room remains today as a quiet contemplative space with almost all of its original fixtures and furniture intact. It is one of less than five surviving intact Tiffany Studios interiors remaining on view to the public. It is open for use Monday through Friday from 9-4pm.
