The privately owned, 422 acre, Remington Woods, was purchased by Remington Arms in 1906 as a powder park, following an explosion at its Bridgeport plant. The former munitions testing site is being cleaned up by its present owner, Sporting Goods Properties, a subsidiary of Dupont, which acquired Remington in 1980. Proposals for the future use of the property include a business park and preservation of one half of the lands as a preserve.
