Cuddleback Dry Lake Landing Strip

USA / California / Johannesburg /
military, runway, abandoned / shut down, graffiti

Originally built as a civil airport in the late '30s, Cuddleback became an auxillary airfield during the '40s and was later abandoned. During the '60s, it was one of the designated emergency landing sites for the X-15 rocket plane. Bombing circle targets are located nearby.

In 2015, the landing strip served as a canvas for the world's largest work of illegal graffiti. A group painted the words "This land was our land".
