The official seat ('Se') or Cathedra of the Bishop of Goa, who is also the Patriarch of the East Indies and Primate of India, it is dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria, on whose feast day Afonso de Albuquerque finally defeated the Turk Adilshah on November 25, 1510. The Bishop actually lives since the last century and a half, in the Altinho district of Ponjhe or Pangim. As the Cathedral, it is the Mother Church of all Goan Christians. The colloquial or unofficial name, 'Se Cathedral' is an anachronism: Both 'Se' and 'Cathedral' mean the same thing: The Bishop's official seat! The correct name is "Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria".
