Also called Shamirpet Deer Park, located in Bolaram Cantonment of Hyderabad, is about 24kms away from the city. The park stretches over a vast area of 54 acres with deciduous forest giving shelter to a wide array of animals. Famous as the home to the Blackbuck and the Chital deer, several other species of deer can also be seen in their natural habitat. The serene Shamirper lake and the thick vegetation around the park makes it a charming picnic spot.

Towering trees, different hued flowers growing and wild, a cobalt blue lake is what meets your eye once you enter the vicinity of Shamirpet Deer Park . The national park lies 24 kilometers from Hyderabad. The Shamirpet lakes give a fresh lease of life to the area and its residing animals explaining why wildlife frequents this area during summer. Shamirpet Deer Park stretches over a vast area of deciduous forest which gives shelter to a wide array of animals.

Shamirpet Deer Park, commonly known as Jawahar Deer Park, is located at Shamirpet in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana. It lies to the north from the capital city of Hyderabad. As the name suggests, this park is home to different species of deer. It was built by the Nizams during the 20th century for the protection of deer. The park is called as Shamirpet Deer Park due to its close vicinity to the Shamirpet Lake, an artificial manmade lake which was constructed around 1960’s. The park is spread over 55 acres and is also home to 15 different species of birds. It also exhibits a Butterfly Park, which is a treat to watch. Chital and Blackbucks are the main residents here and are found in large number. Once a hunting ground for Nizam, this park is now maintained by the Government of Telangana under the supervision of State Forest Department.
There is also an observational tower situated in the park. From there, you can witness the scenic beauty of Shamirpet Lake and if you are lucky, then you can see herd of deer coming out from their hiding places and enjoying a water bath in the lake. During the monsoon, lake usually overflows, flooding the nearby area as well.
There is also a restaurant inside the park which serves food for visitors. There are cottages for lodging built by the State Tourism Board. It is located inside the forest. There is also a small temple dedicated to local deity of Katta Maisamma. Picnics can be also organized with prior permission from the Forest Department in this park. It is undoubtedly the perfect weekend destination in close proximity to Hyderabad.

How to Reach
The park is 24 km from Secunderabad Railway station and 60 km from Hyderabad Airport. The Outer Ring Road surrounding Hyderabad is very near to this park and the best way to reach here is by your own vehicle like car or bike. You can also hire a mini bus or taxi if you are coming in large groups.
