 condominiums, postmodern (architecture)

210-foot, 18-story Postmodern residential building completed in 2011 for the Stahl Organization. Designed by Schuman, Lichtenstein, Claman & Efron, it is clad in limestone and glass, with beige metal trim. The ground floor has a light-brown granite water table, and the building has a prominent, rounded northwest corner. The 2-story base has commercial storefronts lining Broadway; each storefront section consists of three bays, and has bronze-colored metal framing and glass, with glass double-doors at the center bays. The stone piers separating the three main bays on Broadway are grooved down the middle and have Art-Deco inspired light fixtures. On the north facade, the 2-story base has another large storefront bay next to the rounded corner, followed by the main entrance in a 3-bay section. The center of these has a revolving glass door, sidelights, and a transom, while the west one has a glass double-door and transom, and the east one has a plate-glass window. The 2-story piers framing the revolving door bay are grey-brown granite and fluted, and there is a bronze marquee extending out over the ground floor at this bay, with cresting on top and lettering spelling out "LAUREATE" on all three sides. Farther left are two separate bays, one with a commercial entrance with a glass door, and the other with a plate-glass window. At the east end are two double-wide bays with garage entrances and exits, and a single bay in between them with a glass door, sidelight, and transom. The bronze spandrels between the two floors of the base have patterned vent grilles in every bay east of the main entrance, and more of these grilles at the outer bays of the storefront sections.

The upper floors of the north facade step upward in three sections. The 6-bay east section is the lowest, rising to a setback above the 10th floor. The 5-bay middle section rises to a setback above the 12th floor, and the 2-bay west section (plus the rounded corner bay) rise to a setback above the 14th floor. Above these, the east section has five wider bays and rises to a lower roof line at the 15th floor. To the west are five more wider bays (and the rounded corner bay) rising to the main roof line at the 18th floor. All of the bays have tripartite windows with light-grey metal framing (with short upper transom panes), and the stone piers have thin vertical grooves at their centers at each floor. Some of the bays at the east half have balconies with rounded corners and beige metal railings in intricate designs, running from the 4th-10th floors. Every other bay across the 5th floor has a shallower Juliet balcony railing. These are also seen at every floor in the 3rd bay from the west, and across every bay at the 11th floor. Curved balconies front the rounded corner bay at each floor. The wider bays at the top floors also have tripartite windows, in two different formats, and balcony railings continue on four of the bays.

The west facade on Broadway has nine bays of tripartite windows in different width formats, with more of the Juliet balcony railings. The six southern bays set back above the 12th floor, with the remaining three bays (and rounded corner bay) setting back above the 14th. There is a wedge-shaped 2-story mechanical penthouse at the east side of the upper roof.

The bulk of the building is L-shaped. The south-facing wall of the lower east wing on 76th Street has seven bays of tripartite windows, with a setback above the 10th floor. Above, the southeast corner of the main tower juts out to a corner-edge with wrap-around windows, and to the east, slightly more recessed, are six bays, two of which are narrower with single-windows, ending at the lower roof line at the 15th floor. The corner-edge window bay continues up to the main roof line. The east-facing facade of the south wing has two bays of tripartite windows at the south end, with wide balconies fronting them beginning at the 11th floor. To the north there is a tripartite window bay and a wide bay of several panes, above which rises the mechanical penthouse.

The building contains 69 condominium units. The ground floor has an Avis Car Rental in the garage space at the east end on 76th Street.
