On October 4th, 1965, Pope Paul IV flew from Rome to JFK as the firdt time a pope had ever visited the western hemisphere. After attending a series of meetings, TWA had the honor of taking him back to Italy. The outfitted a special plane with a conference room and bed. Waiting for him in one of the upper lounges was a circular banquette. It is said that he met here with his final guests while waiting for his departure. Even today, the seat is referred to as the "Pope's chair".
