In 1963, Nassau County acquired the family farm of Joshua Powell, a descendent of Thomas Powell, who made the "Bethpage Purchase". With the Powell family farmhouse as its centerpiece, the county created the Old Bethpage Village Restoration, an authentic recreation of a 19th century Long Island farm town. The early stages of creating Old Bethpage Village was developed by Architectural Heritage, Inc., the Boston firm that had masterminded the adaptive use of Boston’s Old City Hall.

The "village" is a working museum which incorporates actual buildings from all over Long Island, including a school, churches, farmhouses, a blacksmith, and a general store. It was used as a filming location for the 2012 single "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons.
