dam, hydroelectric power station/plant
Originally built in 1907-9, the dam consists of a 50-ft tall concrete spanning a 500-ft spillway. It was flanked by 2000-ft earthen dyke on either sides. The earthen dyke gave way in October 1911, flooding the town of Black River Falls some 12-miles downstream. The dam was again damaged in the 1993 floods.
