Austin is a city in Mower County, Minnesota. The population was 28,174 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Mower County.
The city was first platted in 1856, incorporated as a village in 1868, and as a city in 1871, and reincorporated in 1876.
The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad served Austin from 1866 until 1980, with a line now operated by the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern.
