Created in 1974 when a 25-ft tall earthen dam was built holding back the waters of Bayou Castor, Campbell Creek and Odom Creek, the resulting lake serves as a cooling reservoir for the Central Louisiana Electric Company (CLECO) Boyce Power Plant. The privately owned lake covers 3112 acres. It is relatively shallow, averaging only 9 feet in depth. At its deepest, it is 25-ft.
