archaeological site, ancient civilization, tell (mound)
An archaeological site in southern Iraq, west of Nasiriyah, northwest of ancient Ur, and southeast of ancient Larsa. The mound lies about 1 km northwest of Tell Khaiber (1), which has been excavated and revealed to be the site of a castle belonging to the kings of the Sealand c. 1600 BC. It appears that after Tell Khaiber (1) was abandoned and the region came under Kassite rule (c. 1450 BC), the local population center shifted to nearby Tell Khaiber 2.
