Tell Khaiber (or Tall Khaybar) is an archaeological site west of Nasiriyah, northwest of ancient Ur, and southeast of ancient Larsa, excavated in 2013-2017. The site featured a large rectangular castle with walls lined by closely-set towers, and a number of texts dating to the reign of Aydaragalama of the Sealand, sometime in the 1600s BC. An associated site, Tell Khaiber 2, lies about 1 km to the northwest. It appears that after Tell Khaiber (1) was abandoned, the area came under Kassite rule (c.1450 BC) and the local population center shifted to Tell Khaiber 2. The site of Tell Khaiber appears to be consistent with the deduced general location of ancient south-Babylonian Kar-Shamash between Larsa and Ur.
